Chantel and Family.jpg

Tell us about yourself and your family.

I'm originally from O'ahu, Hawai'i where I also had met my husband, Joseph. He is in the Navy and that's how we ended up here in Washington state with our little girl, Amari.

What surprised you the most once you became a mom?

I think for me, the most surprising thing was not feeling an instant connection to my baby as soon as she was born. I bonded with our baby during pregnancy and had heard stories of how amazing the connection with your baby is the day of their birth. That wasn't the case for me, I felt I was handed this tiny human and didn't really know what to do. Luckily with time, my baby and I now have a great bond.

Why did you join FIT4MOM? Why do you love it?

I originally joined FIT4MOM because I wanted to get active after having my baby. I was never the type of person to got to the gym or workout at home so I needed something with routine and structure as well as daycare. After my first class, I was surprised that my body...

Stephanie west.jpg

Hi, I'm Stephanie West, mom to William Marlowe (almost 5) and Audrey JoAnna (3). I've been married to my husband Jimmy for eight years now.

We recently moved to WA in September after having lived in CT for eight years. My husband is active duty Navy and we decided to take this opportunity to live in a different part of the country, hence moving to WA!

I grew up in upstate NY and hope to make a permanent home somewhere in the northeast! I received my B.A. in French from SUNY Albany and got my M.S. in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Central CT State University. I was an ESL teacher in CT for three years and truly enjoy teaching. When I'm not busy chasing after my two kids, I enjoy gardening, music, hiking, traveling, raising my chickens, and trying new things!

I went to my first Stroller Strides class in CT when William was 4 months old (all the way back in 2012!). My husband had just left for a seven month deployment, I was suffering from Post Partum Depression, and I desperately needed to get out of the house. I went to my first...

Kaylee and family.jpg

Hey, ladies! My name is Kaylee Sanchez, my daughter is Akaya India, and I'm married to my wonderful man, Jefté (Jef-Tay).

I currently live in Suquamish, which is across town from the house I grew up in from 2-18 years old. After graduating in 2005 from Kings West High School in Bremerton, I went to George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon to study Education and Spanish, and to play soccer. After 2 years, I migrated south to finish my studies at Azusa Pacific University in Southern California. I stopped playing competitive soccer in order to spend significant time studying abroad in the Dominican Republic and Mexico.

Toward the end of my studies, I met Jefté and we felt the most instant connection. We quickly fell in love. I thought I'd stay in LA near his family, but when visiting my family, I interviewed for a Spanish teaching position at the private K-8 school I went to as a kid and got the job. A year into teaching, Jefté moved to WA and we got married. After 5 years of teaching, I decided to stay home with my new little baby girl. It was so hard to say...

leanne 2.jpg

Hi! I’m Leanne Wetzel, mother to Emiline (Emily) Lena and wife to Pete.

I am a rare military brat because I went to the same school in Kansas from kindergarten thru graduation. In fact, my parents still live in the same “temporary 4-year home” I grew up in. I went to Kansas State University to study computer science. After graduation, I went to work for Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, NE, where I met my husband.

Pete has always loved Seattle. In 2010, he took me on a Pacific Northwest road trip (including a stop to Vancover during the winter Olympics) and I was hooked. We committed to moving there “someday”. In 2013, we took the leap of a lifetime leaving our friends, family and secure jobs and started new in Bainbridge Island. I worked for a wonderful small marine software company called Tideworks. Then in March 2015, we welcomed our daughter Emiline (Emily) Lena. After she was born, I decided to stay home with her full time.

I went to my first Stroller Strides class in August 2015. (You can read more about that story...

leanne and emily.jpg

I have always been quite versed at making up excuses to avoid exercising. In summer 2015, I was full of them. I was on maternity leave after the birth of my daughter, still debating if going back to work was the right choice for our family. Thumbing through the Bainbridge Island Parks and Recreation events catalog trying to find ways to get out of the house, I saw a listing for Fit4Mom Stroller Strides. It sounded like fun and one of the few things we could do while she was so small. But then the excuses started to fly. It said Stroller Strides was “a 60 minute total body workout”. After 7 years working a desk job, I was seriously out of shape. My petite figure hid it pretty well. Actually, lets be really honest, I had NEVER really worked out even before then. I had tried working with a personal trainer for a while before I got married and there were a few times when my college roommate dragged me to the university gym. But every time my excuses got in the way after just a couple of days. And the more I read that listing, the more I convinced myself there was no way I...

My WHY to start FIT4MOM in Bainbridge Island and Poulsbo was a long time coming. I had been in a job that I liked and felt comfortable in, but did not feel fulfilled. Then, on Christmas morning in 2012, I got the best gift: our son Charlie. Having Charlie changed my world and my perspective. I couldn't imagine not being with him but I struggled emotionally and felt very lost, even when I was with other mothers. After I went back to work part-time, I felt lost and pulled in many directions. When I was at work, I thought about our son. When I was with our son, I was worried about work. Nothing felt right.

When my son was about 15 months old and I had just recently found out I was pregnant with baby number two, I found out about FIT4MOM. I just happened to be sitting next to the owner of the FIT4MOM in my then neighborhood and she told me about an anniversary event the following week. I had the day off from work so I figured why not?

I was hooked. Even though I didn't know anyone, the other moms talked to me. They cheered me on. They played with my son...
